After high school football teams have been left in limbo concerning the start of their seasons due to the coronavirus situation, Alabama state superintendent Eric Mackey confirmed that sports will take place in the fall. In a joint press conference with state health officer Dr. Scott Harris, Mackey said extracurricular activities will happen, although they will look different as protocols are still being worked out.

There are some youth signups that are going on now and in the near future: the Athens Boys and Girls Football Association will be having signups from 9 a.m. until noon every Saturday through July 25 at the Limestone Water Authority on Highway 72. For more information, call Chris Townsend at 497-2648. Fall youth sports registrations continue at the Athens Recreation Center: soccer and flag football through July 20, archery will be through the month of September. For more information, call 256-233-8740.
