6-18-2015 3-54-23 PMBlazin’ Blends Memphis Style BBQ Seasoning! That’s what it said on the bottle. My Mother (known as MeMe in the Athens Now world) saw it at the Dollar Tree and decided to give it a try. She bought one for herself and one for me. I have since gone back to Dollar Tree and bought several more for friends and family. We have really enjoyed it. I used mine on chicken and plan to prepare some pork the same way. I also grilled my chicken, but I plan on cooking the pork in the oven. It’s so easy to prepare and to maintain. I hope that you will try it!! You can send your questions and Emails to shelleysdesk@gmail.com

You can use this seasoning on any type of animal or fowl.

6-6-2015 11-14-47 AMThis is one recipe that has always been in the make, make, and make again section of my recipe book. Once you try it you will know why. I can remember my mother making it on hot summer days in New Orleans. I carried on the tradition with my own friends and family. I have also on occasion, taken it to a church function or two. Give it a try and let me know what ya think. Your can email your questions to shelleysdesk@gmail.com Enjoy.

5-15-2015 2-20-36 PMI myself love a good cold cup of fresh fruit with a dollop of sweetened sour cream on top. I threw this version together last week, after hitting the jackpot in the fruit section at Publix. What I like most about it is that it stays firm and tasty for several days ( if it lasts that long ) Give it a try and let me know what you think. Email your questions and recipes to shelleysdesk@gmail.com Enjoy!

5-1-2015 12-47-13 PMThis issue I want to feature our chicken stew recipe. I have to confess that until I moved to Alabama I had never eaten chicken stew…my daughter and I came up with this version. It’s really easy and we hope you try it.

4-17-2015 9-41-59 AMCan you see it? The orange glow in the background… That’s my patio fireplace. Last week, it accompanied the smell of fresh cut grass, a cool evening breeze, and this no bake cheese cake. Our neighbor Ms. Paula shared this recipe with us, and I just couldn’t help but include it in this week’s issue. It is simple and tasty. If I’m not mistaken, I think Paula puts a dollop of whipped
cream on top of hers! Make it for your family and enjoy…

I can’t express enough how much I enjoy your emails– So many of you emailed me about the Aloha Pudding recipe. It is great to hear from you. If you have a question or comment, you can email me at shelleysdesk@gmail.com. Y’all make a memory in the kitchen this week. I promise you won’t regret it…

4-3-2015 11-54-21 AMThis is one of my favorite recipes…easy to make and everybody loves it! I can remember making it for my children when they were growing up. It just wasn’t summer at the beach without Jello Cake. This cool treat mixes just right with sunburns and sandy feet. It’s been a while since I challenged our readers to make a memory in the kitchen. So, go ahead I dare you… And let me know how it turns out. You can email me at shelleysdesk@gmail.com.

3-20-2015 10-12-19 AMIf you enjoy fruit with your green salad and really like a variety of things in your bowl, then you will enjoy making this salad, and eating it too. The biggest of skeptics in my home had to cry “mercy” and admit that the concoction (that’s what one family member called it) was very good after all!

Hope you will give it a try and enjoy…?send your questions to shelleysdesk@gmail.com.

3-5-2015 2-28-43 PMI myself like pineapple just about any way you can serve it. This is a tasty dish served best when hot. The first time I tried it, I was in a little town in Mississippi right off the coast. I lost the recipe when it and all of my other recipes floated away in hurricane Katrina. I recently came across it again in an old cookbook at a flea market. Hope you and yours enjoy it. You can email your questions to shelleysdesk@gmail.com

Mardi Gras Cornbread

2-20-2015 1-08-52 PMWith all of the Gulf Cost celebrating the Mardi Gras season, I thought it only proper to name this “Mardi Gras Corn Bread.” It’s not only pleasing to the palate but festive too. My family and I are always trying out new recipes on each other. Granted, we make these recipes up most of the time, so they really are coming from our kitchen to yours. I have to thank my baby brother for this one. If you have followed this column for any length of time, then you know I feature his culinary skills here from time to time. This recipe is worth trying. Let me know if do try it. You can email me at shelleysdesk@gmail.com Enjoy!
